A measure of heat energy. One Btu represents the amount of heat needed to raise one pound of water 1 degree Fahrenheit at sea level.
The point at which a local natural gas distribution company, or utility, accepts delivery of natural gas from a pipeline company.
A measure of the heat energy of natural gas equal to 10 therms or 1 million Btus. Abbreviated DTH.
A federal agency that regulates interstate wholesale energy transactions, including natural gas transportation and electric transmission, to ensure reasonable rates. It also licenses hydroelectric projects, interconnections, construction work for the utility industry, rates for wholesale energy customers and utility accounting practices. Abbreviated FERC.
A temporary discontinuance in the supply of electricity or natural gas.
Natural gas that has been turned to liquid by reducing its temperature to -260 degrees Fahrenheit at atmospheric pressure. It occupies 1/600 of the volume of natural gas vapor at standard conditions. Abbreviated LNG.
A utility that distributes natural gas or electricity to customers' homes and businesses.
A schedule detailing the terms, conditions and pricing that apply to various types of natural gas and electric service. Tariffs are filed with and approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission or a state regulatory body.
A measure of the heat energy of natural gas equal to 100,000 Btus.
