Heating needs usually make up the largest share of energy use. So it's no surprise that your natural gas bill rises during the winter months. Michigan Gas Utilities' Budget Billing is designed to make your bill amount more predictable, so you can more easily budget for your energy costs year-round.
We calculate your estimated natural gas cost for the next 12 months, then divide it into 12 payments. You are billed this monthly average for the next 11 months. Your bill for the 12th month will be adjusted if there is any difference between what you paid and the actual cost of the energy you used throughout the year.
If you paid too much, any excess will be refunded to you by check or can be applied as a credit to reduce the following year's Budget Billing payment amount. If you paid too little, you can pay the difference outright or have us spread the balance over the new Budget Billing year.
Customers with outstanding balances on their account are not eligible for Budget Billing.
For extra convenience, add Automatic Payment to your Budget Billing plan. This will reduce your monthly bill paying to a simple entry into your checkbook.
