- What's different?
- We currently buy gas for you and deliver it through your meter as you need it. With the Michigan Gas Choice program, you can now choose to purchase natural gas from another company (supplier). Regardless of your choice, we will continue to deliver the gas to your meter, handle billing, and answer service and emergency calls as well as questions about your MGU account.
- Will I have to choose?
- No. Michigan Gas Choice is a voluntary program open to all customers on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no obligation to choose another supplier. If you do not want to choose an alternate supplier, do nothing. MGU will continue to supply and deliver your natural gas.
- How do I sign up with a new supplier?
- New gas suppliers may approach you about the Michigan Gas Choice program. If you would like to switch to one of these suppliers, complete their enrollment process by mail, telephone, Internet, person-to-person, or in whatever way the supplier may offer. Your chosen supplier will send the enrollment request to MGU for processing.
- Can MGU suggest a good supplier?
- No. Michigan Public Service Commission rules prohibit us from recommending one supplier over another.
- What can MGU do regarding Michigan Gas Choice?
- We can provide you with information about Michigan Gas Choice so that you can make an informed decision. We can suggest questions to ask Michigan Gas Choice suppliers. A list of participating suppliers is available on the Michigan Public Service Commission website or contact us.
- Is all natural gas the same, or can a lower price mean lower quality?
- The price does not affect the quality of the natural gas you receive, regardless of the supplier.
- Will the supplier have to tear up my yard to install a new meter or additional lines?
- No additional piping or construction will occur as a result of Michigan Gas Choice. No matter which supplier you choose, we will continue to deliver your natural gas through our existing pipelines.
